Brownwood News – The portion of 4th street that was closed for resurfacing recently was closed again today. The portion of 4th Street between Avenue K and Coggin Avenue will reopen at 5 p.m. this afternoon after crews diamond grade the center of the street for smoothness and water run-off.

The Penhall Company will re-open the street at approximately 5 p.m. today when they are finished and expect to return tomorrow to finish the work. A section of the roadway may be closed tomorrow as crews continue their work.

The street was closed in May of last year for a complete resurfacing and reopened to through traffic last fall. The city was not happy with work done on the project, which was completed two months past its scheduled completion date.

“We are not satisfied with the quality of the finished product in terms of being up to our usual standards,” Councilman Jerry DeHay said in a recent KTXS interview.

The original bid of over $500 thousand dollars was awarded to Waldrop Construction in April of last year, using funds from a certificate of obligation from 2016.
