The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held their 110th annual awards banquet on Thursday, April 14th at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Well over 400 attendees were present to see this year’s award recipients for man and woman of the year, the lifetime of service award as well as many other recognitions.

Jane Ellen Jamar received the night’s highest honor, the Groner Pitts “Lifetime of Service” Award.

This year’s man of the year award went to Brownwood Regional Medical Center CEO Claude “Chip” Camp and woman of the year was Angelia Bostick. (see full awards list below).

The banquet also showcased the “changing of the guard” for the Brownwood Chamber as Daniel Hutson stepped up as chairman of the board, taking over for Tim Espinoza of TexasBank.

The 2016 class of Leadership Brownwood was also recognized for the completion of this year’s course.

Groner Pitts “Lifetime of Service” Award—Jane Ellen Jamar

Jane Ellen Jamar is a longtime Brownwood resident, a graduate of Brownwood High School and Oklahoma University. She served a Brownie Leader and Girl Scout Leader. She was a founding member of the Church of Good Shepherd in 1955 and served there as President of the Women of the Church, Chairman of the building committee for the present facility and served on the Vestry for several years.

She and her husband owned 22 radio stations as well as Big-Tex Outdoor Advertising, seven cable television systems in Texas and Oklahoma, newspapers in Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County and the Brownwood Coca Cola Bottling Company. She has been an active civic leader serving as President of the Brownwood Rotary Ann’s (now known as the Friends of Rotary), the Brownwood Garden Culture Club, The Brownwood Woman’s Club and she was active in the Brownwood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She has sponsored the Best in show Award at the Stars of Texas Art Show since its inception, in honor of her mother Dorothy Mayes who was an artist. In 2008 our award winner was honored as a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas.

She and her brother, Wendell Mayes, Jr., have set up scholarships at Brownwood High School and Texas Women’s University in memory of their parents Dorothy and Wendell Mayes.

Man of the Year – Claude “Chip” Camp

Chip Camp grew up in central Alabama and graduated high school from John T. Morgan Academy in the mid-70s. He began his healthcare career in 1977 as an aide in the radiology department of Selma Medical Center. He began his healthcare career in 1977 as an aide in the radiology department of Selma Medical Center, where he met his future wife Barbara.

Camp has served as Chief Executive Officer in hospitals from Tennessee to New Mexico and has been CEO at Brownwood Regional Medical Center since July 2011.

Camp gives his time and talent to several organizations in the community including the Brownwood Rotary Club, Brownwood Kiwanis Club and has served at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors for 4 years. He is currently a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He and his wife have three children and 9 grandchildren.

Woman of the Year – Angelia Bostick

Angelia Bostick has a heart for helping people. She works with churches, businesses, local government, and state agencies to raise awareness of needs and opportunities within our community. She has been the Executive Director for Good Samaritan Ministries since 1993, and is all about giving to those in need. Bostick supervises over 300 volunteers and 14 staff members to meet the goals of GSM. As a part of that, she works with local organizations such as Brown County Home Solutions, Brownwood Area Community Garden, Heart of Texas Christian Womens Job Corps, CASA, The Salvation Army, Family Services Center, and several others. Bostick recently announced that she will retire from Good Samaritan Ministries later this year.

Through her outreach through GSM, Bostick has won several other awards including Community Partner of the Year, Spirit of Social Work Award, Business of the Month, Goodwill Ambassador of the Year and the Stuart Coleman Good Neighbor award.
