The Brown County Youth Fair has added a scholarship fund for exhibitors. The Putter Jarvis Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in honor of the late O.C. “Putter” Jarvis, who was a lifelong supporter of the Brown County Youth Fair. Although he supported all aspects of the Brown County Youth Fair, he particularly supported champion exhibitors.
In order to honor Jarvis’s legacy of supporting champion exhibitors, scholarships were awarded to champion exhibitors of the Brown County Youth Fair in the market divisions of cattle, sheep, goats and swine. Each grand champion exhibitor will receive a $5,000 scholarship. Each reserve grand champion exhibitor will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
The scholarships will be funded through private donations. “These scholarships would not be possible without the incredible generosity of several businesses and individuals,” said Stephen Haynes, president of the scholarship board of directors. “In order to award these scholarships we asked for a three year commitment of either $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500 annually, and we received an overwhelming response,” said Haynes.

Haynes added, “Putter had a great legacy of supporting the Brown County Youth Fair, and these donors wanted to honor him. They also wanted to encourage the exhibitors to continue to work hard and further their education. We hope this will be a lasting tribute to Putter, and an encouragement for our youth for years to come.”
In addition to the scholarship, award recipients will receive a trophy in the shape of a Stetson hat. The award was designed by Jarvis’s daughter, Jamie Munson, who fondly remembers her father wearing his coveted hat. Willie’s T’s also helped in the design of the award, and made a significant financial contribution to help make the awards possible.
The scholarship fund is a separate charitable organization that is managed by a five member volunteer board. The current members of the board of directors are Stephen Haynes, Mark Bessent, Greg Dodds, Gayland Miller and Jamie Munson. Questions concerning the scholarships may be directed to any board member.
