IMG_8204Saturday night the 2010 Brown County Youth Fair Premium Sale drew in a huge crowd of family and friends of the participants and  generous support from local and area buyers.

Horse Show Champions and Reserve Champions were recognized, followed by the Youth Fair Showmanship Awards for each Division in both Junior and Senior age groups.  

Fashion Show Best Models were also named.  Callie Adams was the Best Senior Model; Beale Madison Gordon received the Best Junior Model title; and Tuesdi Tidwell was named the Best Junior Model. 

High Point Home Economics Awards were:
Grand Champion Overall Senior Home Economics Division:  Erica Jordan, 4-H Horse Project
Reserve Grand Champion  Overall Senior Division:  Briana Smith, Early FCCLA
Grand Champion Overall Junior Home Economics Division:  Kelcie Roberson, 4-H Rabbit Project
Reserve Overall Junior Home Economics Division:  Emily Brown 4-H Horse Project
Grand Champion Overall Sub-Junior Home Economics Division:  Courtnie Smith, 4-H Rabbit               Project
Reserve Overall Junior Home Economics Division:  Katelyn Gotcher, 4-H Horse Project

Home Economics Grand Champion items were then auctioned.  Items brought in from $250 to $700 each.  During this part of the auction, the Brown County Fair Association mentioned a fund they had raised of $2100 and then a special bid was taken for the Diehl family who lost their father this year.  Generous bidders showed their love and support of  the family, raising $3900.  Once again the Brown County area was wonderful in supporting some of  “their own”.

The premium sale then continued with the Livestock Division.  Grand Champion Market Steer, shown by Taylor Roberts received a premium of $3300 from Ronnie & Julia Taylor.  Reserve Champion Market Steer, shown by Levi Westerman brought a premium of $2000 from Stewart & Margaret Coleman, Landmark Life.  Grand Champion Market Lamb, shown by  Samantha Garrett, received a premium of $2100 from Vulcan Materials.  Reserve Champion Market Lamb, shown by Jessica Smith, was given a premium of $1400 from Landmark Life.  Grand Champion Swine, shown by Taylor Penn brought a premium of $2600 from Finch Auto Supply.  Reserve Champion Swine, shown by Hunter Carrier, received a premium of $2000 from Hi-Way Auto Parts.  Grand Champion Market Goat, shown by Jaylin Smith, brought a premium of $2000 from Landmark Life.  Grand Champion Rabbit received a premium of $500 from Big Country Ford.  Reserve Champion Rabbit also purchased by Big Country Ford brought a premium of $700.  Breed Champions for the steers brought $2000 and $1600 each, buyers were Landmark Life for both.  Market Lamb Breed Champions brought between $600 and $1400 each, buyers were Groom‘s Feed and Dan & Groom‘s Feed.  Market Swine Breed Champions received $400-$1100, buyers were Brown County Farm Bureau, Double K, Hi-Way Auto Parts.  Market Goat Middle Weight was purchased by Load Craft for $400.  Reserve Champion Breed Steers received $3000 and $900, purchased by Dunn Ford in Clyde and Groom’s Feed respectively.  Market Lamb Breed Champions brought between $450 and $550, buyers were Service Feed Mill, Red Man Lodge and Vulcan Materials.  Reserve Breed Champion Swine brought $450-$500, buyers were Bonanza Motors/Citizens National Bank, Mid-Tex Cellular, and Double K.  Placing livestock continued to be sold throughout the rest of the sale.  

Thanks to the generosity of buyers and participant’s families, the kids of Brown County experienced not only a great 2010 Youth Fair, but also learned some great lessons on responsibility and the rewards that come from hard work.
