HPUlogoThe Howard Payne football program held their annual awards night on Monday and honored those who stood out from the rest for the Yellow Jackets this season. 

Team awards were given out to letterman, captains, seniors, and position players of the year as well as Senior of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and Most Inspirational Player awards.

The ceremony was held in the Bullion Suites of the Mabee University Center on the Howard Payne University campus. Players and guests including parents, family, football staff, and HPU administration were in attendance.

The awards were presented as follows:

2009 Captains

Line Backer – Kevin Reyna
Defensive Back – Jordan Pfenenger
Offensive Back – Zach Hubbard
Wide Receiver – Edward Cody
Specialist of the Year – Mitchell Bailey 

Senior of the Year – Edward Cody
“For exemplifying the ideals of Yellow Jacket Football in the areas of leadership, citizenship, and athletic ability” 

Most Valuable Player – Edward Cody
“For loyalty, relentless effort, and exceptional athletic performance in the Yellow Jacket Football” 

Most Inspirational Player – Corbin Young
“For enlivening and exalting teammates to believe in doing their best” 

2009 Seniors
Josiah Bone, Edward Cody, Jake Dezell, Danny Dudgeon, James Freeman, Johnathon Haddock, Justin Havard, Trevor Kleine, Cody Lilley, Aaron Martin, Chase Reneau, Kevin Reyna, Lane Wakefield, Corbin Young 

Howard Payne finished 4-6 overall last season with a big win over nationally ranked Mississippi College.
