As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Students with a Goal (SWAG) along with Big Brothers Big Sisters held the 1st Annual Butterfly Ball and Grasshopper Feast at Coggin Park on Saturday.

The event included several family events, a parade through the park, and ended with a butterfly release.

Gina Jameson, Regional Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brown County, said it was an event that she always wanted to help organize.

“SWAG was wanting to know what they could do for Big Brothers Big Sisters this year and I always wanted to do a butterfly release, and so I asked them if they wanted to take it on and they were very excited about doing that,” Jameson said. “I think it can be a fun annual event for us to do in the community for the month of April.”

In addition to SWAG and Big Brothers Big Sisters, several other organizations participated including CASA, the Child Welfare Board, Family Services Center, and Central Texas Opportunities Head Start.

Jameson said that in addition to family fun, this event was to help SWAG raise money for an upcoming event.

“The butterfly release is a fundraiser for SWAG for their Bowl for Kids Sake teams for Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Jameson said.  “It really was a great way for families to come out and celebrate spring at the park.”

SWAG is a group of Brown County students who use their time to help area organizations.
