A local homeschool association Christians Offering Fellowship to Family Educators, COFFE, will host the first annual Brown County Homeschool Art Fair. The fair will be held at the Brownwood Art Association Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood this Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Homeschool students in the Brown County area are encouraged to submit their art pieces for judging and display. Entry fee will be one canned food item and $2 per student, members of the public, parents and children under the age of five years will not be charged. Canned food will be donated to the Brownwood Salvation Army ministry. Students will be allowed to submit up to three entries in as many categories as applicable. Any artwork completed during the 2011-2012 school year can be submitted.
Submissions and registration will be accepted on Friday, April 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as the following Saturday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Art Building on Fisk Avenue. Judging will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday before the fair begins.
Categories include drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture, mixed media artwork, edible art, and a special category for children ages two through five years featuring coloring pages. Artists’ names and ages should be printed on the back of the submission. No names should be displayed on the front. Competing age groups include Rookie (ages 2-5 years old), Fledgling (ages 6-8 years old), Apprentice (ages 9-13 years old) and Virtuoso (ages 14-18 years old).
The fair will also feature free activity booths for children to enjoy including origami, bead jewelry, shield design, cupcake decorating and face painting. The Brownwood Art Association 2012 Artist of the Year Kit Timmins will be giving a special demonstration during the fair. Members of the general public are also encouraged to attend the art fair. Students will have the option of releasing their art to sell to the public.
