The 17th annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit opened Saturday night with a reception and awards ceremony showcasing artistic works from across Texas.
This year’s exhibit features 109 works of art from 72 artists that were selected by juror Daryl Howard of Austin out of 340 entries.
Howard stated that she was very pleased with the entries that were of great quality and variety, and that it was an honor to have been the juror of this show.
“This is a tough job to come in and look at over 300 pieces of art that have been brought in from all over the Central Texas area – artists who have put their heart and their souls into their work. I looked at media ranging from oil painting to watercolor to sculpture to mosaic to wooden vases—beautiful art work created by the talent in this area of Texas. I believe it is wonderful that artists in central Texas have a venue to be able to make art and exhibit art,” said Howard.
Awards and cash prizes totaling $6500 were given to 14 artists in a variety of categories. This year’s $1000 Dorothy Mays Best of Show Award was given to Jana Herndon – “Lazy Fall Afternoon.” Herndon is pictured at top with the artwork.
