Commencement for Brownwood High School was held Friday night for 161 graduating seniors at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Valedictorian of the BHS Class of 2010 is E.J. Davila, son of Tammy Westerman. E.J. plans to attend Howard Payne University majoring in Pre-Law, which he feels will be a “good opportunity to help people”. He plans to live at home while attending HPU. E.J.’s interests include playing the guitar.
The Salutatorian of the BHS Class of 2010 is Megan Green, daughter of Beth Green and the late Jeff Green. During her high school career, Megan has been involved in theater, served as vice president of the BHS National Honor Society and as treasurer of Students Against Destructive Decisions. She is also on the Heartland Mall Teen Board. Megan has plans to attend Saint Mary College in New York, where she will study nursing. She is excited about moving to New York and wants to “reach out and gain some new experiences”.
During Commencement, Meagan Green gave the Salutatory address and encouraged her classmates to understand that leadership is important but remember to walk beside each other in friendship and that life is what we make it. She reminisced of some favorite quotes, such as Mr. Jones stating “Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours.”
“As you go out in the real world, remember…don’t do anything Mr. Faircloth wouldn’t do…it probably 
won’t be worth it in the end,” said Green. “Congratulations Class of 2010, we’ve made it.”
E.J. Davila gave the Valedictory address, giving thanks to his Savior, family, teachers and friends. He spoke of a friend helping him decide what to speak about in his address, giving a Bible verse, Jeremiah 6:16 “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it.”
Davila told classmates that he prays that they all remember that God always provides, even when times seem unbearable. “I pray that when we meet the cross roads of our lives, that we will find the good way and we will take it,” he said.
Several symbols of academic achievement were worn by several of the gradates. These were gold medals for those with 3.5 grade point averages; Gold Honor Cords designating Texas Scholars; red, white and blue cords worn by the first three ever Brown County Lone Star Graduates (having 30 or more college hours earned during high school); red cords by blood donors; and blue & gold Ribbons with medallions indicated Key Club Members. Distinguished graduates were also recognized.
