The 2010 Stars of Texas Juried Fine Arts Exhibit is looking for entries in their upcoming show Feb. 7-19 in Brownwood.
All entries must be delivered to the Depot Civic and Cultural Center, 600 Depot St. Brownwood, Texas on Friday, January 29, 5-6:30 pm or Saturday, January 30, 9 am-12 noon. Entries will be juried for acceptance first and then judged for awards.
Works accepted into the show must remain for the duration of the show. Works submitted for entry must be: original, not done under supervision, and not a copy of published work by a person other than the artist. Art work must have been completed within the last three years and not previously exhibited in a Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit and must be suitable for display in a public building. All artwork must also be for sale.
2D and 3D works in most disciplines, media, and combinations of media are accepted including: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital/computer-generated, and sculpture. Crafts, quilts, stained glass, jewelry or video arts will not be accepted. Works to be hung in the exhibit must be no larger than 54 inches per side and no smaller than 8 x 10 inches. Free-standing works must be limited to maximum of at least 5 inches in at least one dimension.
All artwork must be completely dry and sturdily, framed or mounted, and wired for hanging (no saw tooth hangers). For free-standing works, the artist must provide the display stand.
Works not selected for display in the show must be picked up on Saturday, January 30, 4-5 pm. An opening reception will be held February 6 from 7 to 9 pm with a special awards ceremony at 8 pm.
Awards to be presented: $1000 Dorothy Mayes Best of Show; $750 Juror Award; $500 Don C. Martin Memorial Sculpture Award; $500 Kohler Award; $500 Merit Award; $100 each Five Honorable Mention Awards; People’s Choice Ribbon, and $750 WINN Paint-Off Awards.
The juror for the 2010 Annual Art Exhibit and Show will be John Hartley who is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at UT Arlington. Once again the Stars of Texas will host the well received Paint-Off Competition on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Depot. Two cash prizes of $500 and $250 will be awarded. Also the Salon Des Refuses will again be sponsored by the Brownwood Art Association and held Feb 7-19 at the Art Center.
Artists are invited to submit for show and sale any artwork entered but not accepted into the Stars of Texas Art Exhibit. This year’s exhibit and show is sponsored in part by Barr Fabrication LLC, Jane Ellen Jamar, Margaret and Stuart Coleman, Diane and Tommy Winn, Kohler Co, Betty Martin, Arts Council of Brownwood and the City of Brownwood.
