The 10thannual Brownwood Reunion Celebration has officially come to a close leaving organizers working hard to clear the streets for normal business on Monday.
This grand festival that took place September 17th-19thtook thousands of organizers and volunteers to manage, but the event brought in tens of thousands of people to the Brownwood area leaving a definite impact on the community. Those who attended the event were treated to great entertainment, attractions, contests, food, and fun.
With this year’s circus theme, there were plenty of clowns, stilt walkers, tents, and even a mini make believe circus.
Not only did the event feature names like Kevin Fowler & Johnny Cooper for some of the musical talent, local talent was also featured on the main stage as well as other stages.
As if that was not enough, great competitions took place such as the Classic Car Show, BBQ Cook-off, Photography contest, Grand Parade, Cake-off, and the ever popular 5K & 10K runs. There was also an assortment of great attractions that captivated kids of all ages. Key attractions such as the Kids Zone, Military World, Petting Zoo, Living History Presentation, Project Graduation Paintball, Bow Wow Luau Dog Show, Pride of Texas Midway Carnival, and Bungee Trampolines kept everyone busy outside while attractions inside the Lehnis Railroad Museum offered a cool sanctuary for some.
All of these events combined made up the Reunion and seemed to bring in record numbers of people to the festival. Organizers of the Classic Car Show said that they estimate a between 10,000 – 12,000 people total walked through their show Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This is close to double last year’s totals.
Although a large number of people descend on the Reunion grounds during the weekend, Brownwood Police said that things were relatively quiet.
“We had a 100% increase in population, but calls for service remained the same as usual,” said Lt. Mitch Slaymaker of the Brownwood Police department. Slaymaker said that police received 9 calls for service during the weekend that resulted in 5 arrests which is the same as a typical weekend.
Thanks to all of those who made the Brownwood Reunion possible this year and for their hard work for the last 10 years.
